Contest Rules for the NYPIRG Straphangers' Campaign First Annual Subway and Bus Photo Contest Please read the following: The "First Annual Straphangers Campaign Subway and Bus Photo Contest" is being conducted by the NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign, a project of the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), a not-for-profit corporation. It is being run as part of an effort show how transit images enliven our lives and make the transit system safer, better and more accountable. The contest is open to everyone and there is no entry fee. The NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign will be asking approximately 35,000 individuals by e-mail to submit entries and will be announcing the contest to media outlets. To be considered a valid entry, participants must completely fill out the online survey form by providing their full name, address information, phone, digital photo entry, and photo caption. Completed entries must be submitted via the online entry form to the NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign by 5:00 p.m., Friday, July 30th, 2004. Participants can submit up to 3 (three) photos in each of two categories: "Transit Slice of Life" and "Fixer-Upper." For "Transit Slice of Life," photos can depict people in everyday activity in the subway and bus system, such as snapshots of your family riding the system or riders waiting for a train or a bus. You can also submit photographic images of the system that express what makes the subways and buses so important in our daily lives. The second category is "The Fixer-Upper." These photos can depict conditions in the subways or on buses that need fixing, such as drips (and subway stalactites and stalagmites!) or overcrowded locations. Photos must be submitted in the following format:
Entries which are digitally enhanced, manipulated or a composite of multiple images must be based on the entrant's original photos or photos for which the entrant is the copyright holder. Images which are judged to be primarily computer illustrations rather than photo-based work will be disqualified. All pictures must be original photographs. You must provide the slide or negative of the winning photo, if requested. We reserve the right to publish any photo entries in the "First Annual Straphangers Campaign Subway and Bus Photo Contest" either in print and/or on our website. Five finalists in each category will be selected by an impartial committee. The Straphangers Campaign will ask our list of 35,000 transit activist subscribers to vote online for their favorite entry in the "Transit Slice of Life" category. The top vote getter will be deemed the winner and will be awarded a $70 unlimited-ride 30-day MetroCard. Each of the four runners-up will receive a $21 unlimited-ride 7-day MetroCard. Finalists in the "Fixer-Upper" category will be judged by Straphangers Campaign staff and associates. One winner will be selected and awarded a $70 unlimited-ride 30-day MetroCard. Each of the four runners-up will receive a $21 unlimited-ride 7-day MetroCard. The Straphangers Campaign will submit all "Fixer Upper" finalists to transit officials to resolve the problem, as well as the finalists in the "Transit Slice of Life" category. Winners will be finalized Wednesday, September 15th, 2004 and notified by e-mail shortly thereafter. The list of winners will be posted at www.straphangers.org. If an inadequate number of entries are submitted, the NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign reserves the right to modify the submission dates. If more than one e-mail address is stated on the submitted online entry form, the first listed name shall be deemed the entrant. The decision of the NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign shall be final on all matters concerning the contest and the online vote for the winner of the "Transit Slice of Life" category shall be final. This offer is void where prohibited by law. New York Public Interest Research Group employees and their immediate families are barred from participation in the "First Annual Subway and Bus Photo Contest."
