Marcmail, you're right, all the current NTT order is here now. I suppose the mixture of which lines have R160's now would just be related to the retiring of the R44 and how that's proceeding. One thing they could do would be first to populate "partial" R160 lines (the N and Q) with as many R68/A trains as possible. Then that allows them to push whatever R160 stock they can over to lines like the R and F so that R46's can be put on the A to retire R44's. So if that results in the F being 100% R160, and R160's still being available for the R, then you'd see them on the R. But I don't know if that's exactly the way the MTA is doing things!

We were thinking a like! I also remember some time ago where there was talk about the R179 order going to the R line...There a great chance that Due to the R running about 3 R160's+ rumors of the R179 being almost like the R160's+60ft that order just may come to the R/J,Z(a few R40's over there that needs R.I.P.) line just to send all the R46's to the A/C lines to retire the R44's/R32's..I know the A/C lovers would hate this but its easy to see this happening!

I agree, I don't see them putting R179 stock straight on the A/C lines. The way they seem to be planning it, those will be all R46 once the R32/R44 are gone.

I remember reading that some of the R179 order will be 4-car consists, so that would mean the J/Z/M/L lines. Probably enough to retire the 5 existing R42 trainsets, plus a few spares for growth in the future.

Yes i have the same thinking....I also think there's a chance of a few R160's from the R and maybe the C.I. yard could be sent to ENY to R.I.P. the last R42's making the R line all R179 no matter if they are60ft or75ft but I think the MTA sees now that they have more flex with 60ft cars that can run on any letter line in the system. This would also help to make the A/C lines all R46 also giving them flex to run them at anytime on the A/C,S lines. The R179 is about 2to3 years away if the R42's,44's,32's can hold up that long...

I also guess there are almost no spare R160's around in the system with their heavy demand right now......

1 R32/42 are staying and R44s are being retired instead because of frame issues
2 R179 will be 60 ft in 5&4 Car sets to Replace the R32s and R42s Respectively and will be on the A/C
R46s will be half on the C and on the Rock pk S and used for the SIR.
P.s 2 Option orders Can and will Replace the R46s.

Noted SIR won't get R46s due to that they don't want those cars.

SIR will be getting R46's. SIR will not be getting any new cars on any new model order.
I know someone from the Learning Center (School Car) that is scheduled to go to Staten Island to give classes on the that model.

I guess the R46's will come from the R line to the SIR and maybe the rest going to the A/C once the R179 order happens..

Or the R179 will be on the A/C and the R46s from the A will go to SIR and the R42s and 32s will go scrap.

They did?, i see the 46 conversion would be too expensive vs ordering the new cars that they won't have to Replace for awhile.

The r160 locals are nearly as fast as the r68/a expresses. in fact, from 34 to Rock Ctr, they're faster. So changing for an express at W 4 saves little time.

i disagree - during evenings heading downtown, i can skip ahead 1 or 2 F/M trains easily by grabbing a B or D at 34th to W4th...

True. The express does indeed work efficiently unless there are service delays.
