I think it will work out well because you have a train providing direct service into mid-town. Lets hope that the service is 24/7.

The J/Z do the bypass just so people even ride the M.

That's not true, they run express to lower the time it takes to get from one terminal to the other since the J/Z are both longer than the M.

The A is SRO but most of those passengers are either going to Lefferts Blvd. stations or JFK Airport. The train has seats going over the flats but that doesn't make it useless either. It's technically a useful service to those who live in the Rockaways too. The same goes for the M, since it serves an isolated part of Brooklyn with the L being the only other line in the area.

Right, so with this logic, train lines should terminate when there's little volume. For example, the F should end at lets say Kings Hwy, the N at 18 Ave, the D at Bay Pkwy. It's a slippery slope for sure...

- or the A at Howard Beach except between Memorial and Labor days
- or the 1 at 231st, lets put a new switch in and short turn everything
- or the 3 goes back to shuttles between 148 and 135 late nights
- why not, the 5 shuttles all weekend and add 4 service...
down the slope we go where we end up, nobody knows!

There's no need to run run it 24/7. The current V doesn't run late nights and weekends. Therefore the combined line will just be cut back to the current M shuttle to Myrtle Av as it normally does late nights and weekends. But if the line proves to be popular enough, then I could see the new M run on weekends. But otherwise it is really not needed.

And a combination of factors have to occur, both an uptick on weekend ridership on QB along with that outcry for weekend service to midtown (remember people aren't working in that district much on weekends and its a residential line not a tourist line). There's nowhere to terminate it in midtown so it has to go to Queens, and that's where the 2nd part about QB comes in.

Well recently the E has been running all local during weekends, which has resulted in the E being more crowded all the time during weekends, like it wasn't crowded enough already, so an M running on weekends looks pretty dim.

Also did the MTA decrease weekend service yet?

I think the service cuts are not coming until the end of June.

I would definitely like to see the M/V run on weekend days at least (although of course that's unlikely). Since the G will be cut back to Court Sq all times, it is really a pain to get from Brooklyn to QB local stops via G -> long transfer at Court Sq -> E for one stop -> R. Much nicer to just have G -> M/V... Plus R headways are pretty dismal to be the only QB local service...

If its popular enough and economic times turn around (which may take years, remember the Great Depression didn't end until World War 2 got everyone back to work), then it may. Its not a redundant service like the current M is south of Myrtle.

If the R didnt come so randomly then this would be a good idea, but the MTA refuses to run more than on QB local on weekends.

I have a feeling the MTA isn't gonna have much of a choice but to run a second local on Queens Blvd on weekends.

I don't know why the MTA is trying to make the R into a 1 or a 6

Well, they have their number predictions, service will officially be "slashed" to 10-min headway, we will indeed see if a 2nd local on QB is actually more needed or wanted (as convenience). Remember, TA is on the record as saying that loading guidelines will change so that a chance of getting on any B division train on the weekend and sitting down is rare unless you're near one end of the line or another.

This is going to be a big success and probally one of the best moves the MTA made especially during a COST CUTTING situation. Jamaica riders now have a opportunity to ride the J to the M into the city easing congestion from Jamaica on the E. The M has the chance on being full on both ends during the Rush. The affected train out of all of this will be the ............J

followed by the L

Very true! The J now becomes a real alternative out of Jamaica with the M transfer on the same platform.

Dont forget that Z and how the skip stop was saved, but it is difficult to break old habits, and while slow during the rush the E doesn't make many stops in Queens, while the J has that skip stop and that small piece of express that really is there not so it can go express but so it and the M do not have to interfere with each other going south until the bridge. It still makes a fair amount of stops in Brooklyn. But at least you can sit on one right out the terminal and even at Sutphin.
