The G used to run to Church Av on all times on a normal daily basis, why did the MTA cut it back to Smith st?

I think there was little ridership then and nobody wanted to ride the route due to Equipment issues and the stations were in grafitti.

In 1976 the (F) express was cancelled. Since then the (F) has run local and the (G) has terminated at Smith-Ninth Streets. A complaint was the transfer at Bergen Street.

Good news to hear - Sunday July 5th the (G) will return to Church Avenue for the first time since 1976.

33 years in the making and the G returns to its old term.

They should keep the northern terminus at Conti and if you must run that dreaded V, then start it at 179 St.

They can no longer use the equipment shortage excuse. Just hang on to some equipment that would otherwise be reefed and there you go.

While I am not directly familiar with the Queens Blvd corridor, I do know that both the V & R have terrible headways and since QB sounds crowded, the G can only help. In addition, you open a wealth of possibilities by then connecting the G at Queens Plaza which I think is right next to Queensboro Plaza?

Distance between Queens Plaza and Queensboro Plaza: 4 blocks.
Distance between Queensboro Plaza and Queensbridge-21 Street: 5 blocks.

I think they should connect all those stations. It would be a very good hub since all the services serving it would be running in many directions: N and W run north and west; 7 runs west and northeast; the E, F, R, and V runs east and west; and the G (if it stops at Queens Plaza) runs south.

They will still use the equipment shortage excuse because they will replace ALL of the old cars with the R160 order. And the reason extending the V to 179th St. won't help is that if you do, you will have both trains terminating and trains goign through the station at Forest Hills. If a train is preparing to relay, then the train behind it going to 179th will be delayed and mess up service.

I think they should add a Metrocard transfer in the near future, but nothing else (in the near future) to alleviate this "problem" of sorts.

I don't see how QBP to QP is 4 blocks. Two blocks maybe, but QBP is almost right on top of QP.

Queens blvd from 28th to jackson is a long block... between the 2 stations, is about a 3-5 minute walk (unless you're on the other side (the westbound side) of QBP....

side note: I wonder what they plan on building, on the block binding 28th/QB/Jackson av/

Oh ok, but I've been in that area before and at least by the station entrances, they don't seem to be that far apart. The QP entrance is right below the el, just a bit east of the QBP entrance.

This is great. Park Slope was always one annoying F stop away from the G... Let's face it, the demographics that have invaded LIC, Williamsburg, Carrol Gardens, and Park Slope will probably make ample use of being able to connect all of these neighborhoods together with just one line. After the Brooklyn boom of the last few years, anything that can help keep people out and about will help the local businesses of these neighborhoods.

the only time the G gets extended beyond CourtSQ is when the Winter hollidays are happening "or" in once in a blue moon the Weekends.

I dont even make the line announcement at 74th st anymore for the G, just at 45 Rd. I dont want people complaing that they heard an announcement on the 7 that the transfer was available only to find out it wasn't running after waiting an half hour for a train.

The G doesnt need to go to QB, the R just needs to provide better service on weekends, thats why id ratgher extend the new M's hours to all times and cut back the R to weekdays only since the MTA is so persistent on not allowing 2 QB locals to run during weekends. At least I know the M will acutally show up since it will still be shorter then the R.

Queens Blvd needs 2 locals 7 days a week. I'd have the (M) and (R) run weekends barring GO's since the MTA has a personal hatred for the (G)
