With the (A) now 100% R44 and R46 subway cars, how do you like the R46s on the (A) and how would you compare the ride to a ride on an R44?

R32's are off the (A) line, and the R44's are retiring, as more R160's enter the Jamaica yard, more R46 train sets go to 207st yard. comparing the R44 and R46 has been discussed endlessly already, its more or less the same ride.

I guess R44 riders will miss the little "glass window" by the doors, which seperated my head from the arms of people standing by the doors. Especially in the winter when people wear heavy coats. Other than that I guess i'll miss the the propulsion noises but there no huge differences.

I think that the R44 offers a much more comfortable and smoother ride. Also, you don't hear the jangling over connectors coming from outside the train as you do on the R46. I will say though that the SMS'ed R46's have somewhat improved HVACs where I no longer feel that I am suffocating as the old ones on the low setting.

R44-I like the little glass window by the door, because when I'm standing up I like to lean on the glass, because I don't like to lean on a curved door(R44/46/68/143/160). Also, usually when I'm sitting down by the glass window I like to lean my head on it.

-They also have a nice propulsion sound, and has a smooth ride.

R46-Has a more forceful, dramatic ride. Moves faster than R44/68. You really feel when it sways from side to side.

-Missing glass window by the door.

The R46's look great with the R46's but it's going to be strange riding the A and knowing that the R44's are gone. We don't know exactly when that will be but when it happens, it's going to be odd as hell. I will miss them but the 46's are great and they are a great replacement for the 44's

There are four R44's at 207th being stripped. They won't be reefed but probably sold for scrap is what I hear.

if you look in the Capital Budget for 2010 to 2014 it mentions about the R179 and the R188. on MTA website.

The MTA came up with the capital budget before the R44 problems arose. I'm also not even sure if they approved that program.
