My suggestion is for the Straphangers Campaign to have a (Q) Train survey for the passengers on what subway cars they prefer R68/R68As or R160s. I thought it since the (Q) uses R68/R68As and R160s we can listen to other people's opinion.

This is an interesting idea. But what purpose do you think it would serve?

By the way, hon, this is in the wrong forum, it belongs in the N/Q/R/W forum. This forum is for site feedback.

Anyway, but why would the MTA or the Straphangers Campaign need to know this information? Would it be for the line to completely switch cars? Or would it be for statistical purposes?

Hate to say this, but your average subway rider could give a squat as to what trainset they're embarking on...... "R68" vs "R160" is an alien concept to them... you're probably better off asking such a question like:

"do you prefer the 'old trains' or the 'new trains' on the Q..."
lol...

Although me personally, I prefer the R68/68a's on the Q.

I actually think the adverse, while the riding public might not know the technical names, most daily riders know the differences between the models just not by model or trainset.

In my polling of riders, people like different models for different reason. Mostly revolving seating or standing room, depending on where they are getting onto their train and how crowded it is during rush hour.

I don't see what you're saying that's as adverse as to what I posted there....

Yeah, they know the differences b/w the 2 trainsets b/c it's easily visually noticable.... The idea that the general riding public doesn't know the subway cars by their fleet names, is my point exactly....

People may prefer the R68/a's b/c there's more seats (or a higher chance of sitting down)... People are awe stricken over the R160's b/c they are that much newer (and cleaner, in most cases) than the 68/a's... and it allows for more standing room...

That doesn't necessarily mean that they like to embark upon a particular fleet over the other (that's more a railfanner's thing... you generally don't hear of people saying something like "ugh, I hate those trains... I'll let that one pass, even though there's still some standing room... in hopes for those other trains")... especially during rush hour... virtually no one does that...

....at least, I never hear of, or actually see people do that. If they see an approaching train with the yellow bullet with a black Q in the center, or if they see the Q in parentheses lit up in red, to the average person, it doesn't matter... as long as it's still the Q subway line, they're getting where they have to go regardless....

If you want to do it with NYPIRG funding, and to affect the general public, yes.

But if you want to do it for fun, no.

Well, you have to visit the site. Contact Hiro Nakamura if you see him online, let him know that you're interested in volunteering.

All of the volunteers that complete surveys for us are volunteers and do not receive pay for their effort. Our volunteers are people who are transit riders that have a vest interest in improving various parts of the system.
