The stimulus legislation delivers substantial support for infrastructure projects. At the national level, this includes $48 billion in funding for transportation capital projects ($8.4 billion for mass transit, $27.5 billion for highways and bridges, $9.3 billion for rail, $1.3 billion for airport improvement projects; $1.5 billion for discretionary surface transportation projects). Of this total, New York is expected to receive at least $1.25 billion for the mass transit and $1.1 billion for highways and bridges. The Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Cabinet will be working with State agencies and local governments to aggressively seek funding from other sources of transportation funding.

_--except from the Governor's Press release on the Stimulus Package and it's effect on New York State

off the record, I also heard that NYSERDA will be receiving a little over $100 Million to improve the MTA's Energy efficiency

why would they downgrade the 6?? why take old R142/142A's from that line and transfer them to the 7?? if the 7 is getting these R188's...shouldnt there be enough to fill the 7??
so the old 7's are gonna be 6 trains? thats ridiculous!

I'm pretty sure all of the Upper East Side riders will riot if the R142a's are removed from the 6.

I saw never saw the point of putting the R142As on the 6 from the very beginning. Aside from relieving overcrowds with bench seats, not converting the 6 train to CBTC deems the R142As on the line unnecessary. And same for the R142/As on the 2, 4, and 5. The MTA should've saved some money by ordering some new SMEEs instead. Either way, they still have to retrofit the R142As with CBTC components in order to have them run on the 7.

The only open companies were selling NTTs. All the old SMEEs were out of production and no other SMEEs were being produced anymore IINM. Not to mention the MTA WANTED to bring NTTs to the system.

And again, the R188s are not new cars. They are just conversions of the R142s, with only about 40 new single cars since the 7 runs longer trains.

The NTT has other ammenities like strip maps and automated announcements. They work on the 6.

So if the R188 goes to the (7), then will the (6) get all of it's R62A? Then the R142A from the (6) will go to the (7) also. I don't get it.

R188 is just converting the R142As to CBTC. The R142s (R188s) will switch places with the R62A on the 6 and 7 lines. Since the R142s can run in 10-car trains, a few single R188 cars will be ordered to make 11-car trains for the 7.

They'll go crazy, you're absolutely right. Manhattan (6) riders between 68th and 86th are some of the most uppity people I've ever encountered in New York. One time, an uppity-looking couple gave me a menacing look after I refused to give up my seat because the husband was walking funny.

It probably won't even be that many R62s on the 6. As long as the train moves, that's what matters...

Anyway, keep it seven-y guys. We don't want to stray too far.

The 6 would actually be mostly if not all R62A...

I would say mostly, and if the 6 runs R62A's again, they would probably make the 4 all R142/a. So the 4 can probably give up the remaining R62's to the 3 to displace the R62A's on to the 6 or just give all the remaining R62's to the 6.

Will the R142 from the (4) go to the 2/5?

I believe only the R142As and R142Ss are going to be converted into R188, not R142s. Therefore, the 4 might see some R62As in the future since their R142As would be swapped for the 7.

Yes, but the 4 has both R142's and R142A's, this is why it has to be the 6 that swaps trains with the 7. As the 6 has enough cars and the 7 has to be of one train type since Corona yard is isolated from the rest of the IRT lines.

My bad. I thought that all of the R142As as well as the R142Ss are being converted to R188s.
