True Or False? During rush hours (D) trains serve 167th Street in both directions.

False. The (D) runs express in the Bronx during rush hours and skips 167th. You have to get the (B) if you want to go there.

True or false: East 180th Street on the (2)/(5) is the only IRT station at which the train cars normally open both their doors.

On the #7 there's 111th Street with 5 tracks,

On the B and C, there's 135th Street with 6 tracks

On the A, C and G, there's Hoyt-Schmerhorn with 6 tracks

On the R and W, there's City Hall with 5 tracks - three on lower level

On the D and M, there's 9th Avenue with 6 tracks - 3 on lower level

On the A, B, C, D, E, F and V - there's West 4th Street -8 tracks

Honorable mention of the A, C and E lines at 42nd Street - 5 tracks (now 4 tracks), as well as the old Atlantic Avenue station of the L train 5-6 tracks according to the old plans. As well as the historical Queensboro Plaza station now of the #7, N and W - which used to have a twin structure making a total of 8 tracks.

On the A, B, C, and D - West 145th Street at 7 tracks and two operating levels

Now, I have to think for a moment.

From a previous message: "hoyt schermerhorn has six tracks" - thanks for the correct spelling.

From a previous message: "De Kalb Avenue also has six tracks - two bridge, two tunnel and two Super Express." I knew that I forgot to note a famous station, thanks. (smile)

You're welcome, Mike and welcome back. smile The shortest lines that are not a shuttle? My picks would be the (V), the (W), the (G), the (E) and the (7).

Name at least one station where there's separate platforms for discharging and receiving passengers

From a previous message: "Name at least one station where there's separate platforms for discharging and receiving passengers"

I believe that 33rd PATH Train, and the Newark terminal operates in this way.

Many of the IRT terminals were built with discharging and recieving platforms, such 242nd Street, 241st Street, Woodlawn, and Pelham Bay Park -- that is the purpose of the side platforms built at the terminals to discharge riders, while the central island platforms were for recieving passengers. For years and decades - the terminals have not been used that way, incoming and outgoing riders use the same platform.

I have to think about this question some more.

I would have went with:
179 St
Forest Hills-71 Av
168 St on the A/C
145 St-Lower level
Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall

Actually Mike, 241 St on the (2) has one island platform. As does Woodlawn on the (4)
