Put it to you this way Paul. Bee Line is not a bad bus system.

PROS

Generally Cleaner and 'newer' buses than any of the major local bus systems in region(ie NYC Transit, LI Bus NJ Transit or CT Transit)

"Guide a Ride' ie route map/info and schdules at almost every bus stop.

Easy Connection at Northern Bronx subway stations and terminals to/from Bee Line Routes sering there. Example #20 to/from #4 line at Woodlawn.

CONS

Terrible Headways on Routes running north of White Plains Hub. ie Buses between White Plains and Peekskill area.

No Overnight/24-7 Service on any of it three buisest coordiors. ie the Route 20*(bedford park-Yonkers Raceway/Empire City Casino-White Plains, #1/2/3 242nd St/Van Corlandt Prk.-Getty Sq(Downtown Yonkers) or 40/41/42 (241st Wakefield-Mount Vernon)

Best and Most Realible line: #20 Bedford Park-White Plains line.

Most Scenic: #14 Corlandt Center Mall(Peekskill area)White Plains line. The section between Croton-Harmon(Route 9 Croton Bridge)and Peeksill is nice w/ great views at times of Hudson River.

Hope that answeres your question EE.

Bee-Line 1T-arrytown: Scenic route
Bee-Line 11: PEAK Express NB ride was scenic.
Bee-Line 12: Slow ride to Airport
Bee-Line 13B: Good scenic ride.
Bee-Line 14: Agree with SEPTA, but I only travel bet. White Plains & CHM.
Bee-Line 15: This was also scenic route bet. White Plains and Peekskill via Yorkstown Heights, etc. Only thing I hate is that it took 2-hour one way.
Bee-Line 20/21: Crowded, but good
Bee-Line 41: Good service.
Bee-Line 43: Excellent.
I have more coming.

Why was the BxM4C shortened in White Plains to Central Ave. a mile from the Trans. Center - and why isn't this route promoted more to enable more patrons to Empire City to take the bus?

Dadbo who works for Bee Line and is an occasional member on these boards gave this reason.

"Lack of riders" between Tarrytown Rd(route 119)/Central Ave and WP Transit Center.

I do agree Bee Line should promote BXM4c service more for Empire City. Dadbo was blunt in stating Bee Line only goal is to provide bus service only for Westchester County Residents and not for NYC residents even those who live on the Bronx border.

NYC residents use Bee Line inside Westchester County, the goal of Bee Line should be to promote NYC/Westchester travel (since these are the busiest routes, also NYC Transit won't to that so someone has to served riders who are going across the border).

Bee Line however does have 20 buses going from Yonkers Raceway to the Bronx, and all route 43 trips do end at 241 St, so to some extent NYC residents can't be ignored since many 20 trips are oriented towards Bronx and other NYC residents.

BxM4C (W28) is too expensive to use, the W20, W20X, and W21 are the most popular ways to/from Yonkers Raceway

On commericals Empire City/Yonkers Raceway folks promote taking MNRR to Yonkers/Getty Sq. which is about 2 miles away at least.

Yet as The great one says taking the W20 to/from Woodlawn for #4 subway connection(east side Manhattan) or Bedford Park(west side via D Train)is much easier.

I was making point that Dadbo should promote using the BXM4c more for Yonkers Raceway service to/from Midtown. Seniors who would pay 1/2 fare at $2.50 instead on the 4c would use and make 1/2 empty BXM4c gain some new riders.

In addition to no late night service, no Bee Line route really runs on Thanksgiving and Christmas (unless you count late night/early morning runs, like the W20 after midnight)

The BxM4C literally goes right by the Yonkers racetrack. However, not many people in the city know about Bee-Line.

The only ones I've ever been on are the W7 and the W55. They're both rather efficient and reliable. Only problem is the infrequent headways and lack of service in the night hours.

Afterthought: I have also been on the W75, but that's just the Playland shuttle.

I take the BxM4C all the time when visiting my family in yonkers. It passes by the racetrack and goes onto central avenue. I would say that it might not be worth $8.00 but fairly convenient when schlepping up to Yonkers from Manhattan on a Saturday or Sunday.

A W20 trip had many riders on from the Bronx to Tuckahoe Road. The White Plains bus ahead of it has multiple standees leaving Woodlawn, several people didn't get on that bus unless they wanted to stand near the driver or push to the back.

I think it is a waste of bus space and traffic clogging to have regualr size buses on small/ short revenue routes. With the mini orions it was a better fit for routes like the 26 and was'nt blocking traffic as well. The Buses are good becasue the hartdale shuttles run pretty well with them in those hills and all.

On another note

Could there be routes that could get to the malls on post road like vernon Hills , lake isle golf club area?

as of now only the 40/41 runs there right and the 45 would be the closet other option? why not send the 26 there?

30' vs 40' bus in traffic is an irrelevant issue. The bus is built on the same frame as the 40' and has the same power train. They're cute and have their application. We use the 30' bus on Saturday cause it's available and, over the long haul, will save some wear and tear on the 40 footers. To extend the 26 would cost at least one additional bus in the cycle and probably 2.

BTW - I get complaints frequently from Ardsley residents who don't like the 30 footers on the 39. They prefer the vans.

BBTTWW - There are 30 footers on some trips on the 12.

There is frequent service on the 40 that can take care of passengers wishing to travel to Vernon Hills S.C. I do have a conceptual plan to run a route from Tuckahoe to Crestwood to Eastchester to Vernon Hills and back. Need $$ though.

Understood.

Seeing this site made the 26 look like it had more revenue plus it was pretty cool seeing a mini on a southern westchester route.

I remmeber some MT vernon people a while back before the 7's hours to New rochelle was extended arguing for perhaps even a smaller bus to handle the displaced residents of lincoln ave.

The Idea you have for Tuckahoe is a good one I hope the money is avail. The reason why I brought up that mall was because it is a sleeper mall for alot of people but the stores are good stores.
