They have pics of the 7 having R142 on straphangers/somewhere else on the internet. That was testing though.

It is probably not going to be just R142A or S. The R142 might even go on the 7. Of course, granted that they get CBTC running. Which I have mixed feelings for.

r62as on the 7 should continue for about a year or so and then they'll introduce the new tech trains

They should last on the 7 until at least 2010 or the middle of next decade, if not longer.

They should last as long as they are able to. I wouldn't mind if new tech trains were ORDERED for the 7 (NOT stolen from other lines), but where would all the R62A go? In my opinion, it would be best to use them until it's time for them to retire or so.

Unless, someone has an explanation to where the other R62A would go. Improving service would be a plus, but that many trains? I strongly feel like I'm missing something here.

the r62as will last a VERY long time. If we want r142s or some other ordered fleet, we might as well do it now...

See that's what I'm wondering too. The R62A's need a place and I'm afraid that the MTA will make a huge mistake and take R142's from on the the Lex lines and that will make no sense at all when those trains are really needed on that line.

I totally agree. Problem is the R160's are the main focus when it comes to new trains. It'll probably be in the 2010's or even 20's before new trains hit the A division again.

Bucket seating well into the '20s spells out trouble.

Although I wouldn't mind riding the R62A until then. I just hope the 7 gets new-tech before 1/3. I think it needs it.

I still have a question: If CBTC somehow DOES go on the 7 (wording problems) in the near future, will there be bottlenecking at Queensboro on the Manhattan bound side? Because there's already some slight problems with the local being held at 33rd while the express passes it onto queensboro. Not much of a PROBLEM, but rather, a slight annoyance. Will this grow into a problem w/ bottlenecking (again, wording problems) with CBTC?

For now, any reports of R142 classc cars on the 7 are rumors, don't them seriously or at face value.

I probably know him.

But in any case, train dispatchers aren't any more privy to this sort of information than train operators or conductors are. All we can pass along are rumors.

If the 7 get R142A/S's the R62a's would go on the 5 line and the R142's from the 5 would go to the 4 line or it would be better for the 2 to have the R62a's because of the RFW's and the fact that the 7th ave line would be fulled with R62's and R62a's.

The reason the lines that have the R142/A have them, have them because the 4,5,6 lines run on the Lex. Avenue line and definitely need the new cars. The 2 train has the R142 because it often switches lines at terminals with the 5.

It would be nice to have R142 on the 7, but we should not fix what isn't broken.

They'll last much much longer than that... Judging by the current way of things, the 7 will be the last line to see new technology.

The 7 train is only get the set of R142S trains which only run on the 4 train. the 7 train will get more trains when bombardier and kawasaki deliver the new R142/R142A trains in 5 more years.
