Just a strange observation of mine. For the past couple of months, I've been riding the <6> from 59th Street to Pelham Bay Park at least once a week. Every time I get on, I can't help but notice how quiet the people are on that train. I can't seem to even have a normal-voice conversation with somebody without having every other passenger hear me.

It's never like that when I'm riding my home line, the (2).

Has anyone else ever noticed anything similar?

I take the 6 every day to school and I've noticed that too. Since you're traveling on the Upper East Side, that's probably it. Many people get off at Hunter College, none of them too rowdy. 77th Street is the Lenox Hill Hospital, you wouldn't expect uncivilized people to go there. 86th Street I hear is a mini-shopping strip. 96th Street is the office street, and Mount Sinai Hospital, which is the destination for many businessmen. I don't really know what it's like above that, since 90% of the train gets off at 96th Street including me.

what was the name of that dude on here that hated 86th st riders on the Lex'... was it WillamCarson... somethin like that.... I'd love to read what that guy has to say about this post... haha....

anyway, try riding different sections of the train every couple days.... b/c I used to feel the same way about the brighton express (before it was the Q... now it's the B)... then again, there's been a drastic increase in riders since the B became the brighton express....

If you want excitement, ride a Babylon train at 3PM or 10PM.

And it is much quieter on the 6 Pelham Local between 125th and Parkchester.

I'd agree with you on that one as well.

I'm surprised that the 2/5 is louder than the 6 in the Bronx.

From 125th to Simpson on the (2), I can have a conversation without the whole train hearing it, since everyone else is talking as well.

From 125th to Hunts Point on the <6>, I have to keep my voice down.

Maybe it's just that Parkchester/Castle Hill/Pelham Bay folk just like to keep to themselves.

Yes. We do like to keep to ourselves.

Anyway, it also depends on the time of day, the later I am, the louder it is. But it never gets so loud as to where it's irritating.

Why are you asking? Planning on doing something you hope no one else will notice?

(Ok, I had to get that out)

And also, the high school students are much more annoying on the 2/4/5 lines in the Bronx.

When I took the 6 train, I never noticed the silence. Maybe it was the schoolkids making all the noise, or some preachers. But when school is not in session, the trains and buses will be a lot quieter. No offense to any kids here.

It would be nice if groups of kids were separated into groups of no more than 5 at a time. If you get on a car full of kids, good luck as you are not going to have any quiet time on the ride to whereever you are going to.

Haha what are you a Geezer??

For your info most lex trains are quiet until it pulls into 86th street when the supposed Suits come rushing in.

as for the 6 train you all are reaching a bit .

the Structure of the train is such that it is an forever transitional line and it's bronx express has three perfectly aligned express stops

138th

hunts point

Parkchester

and none of those stops is quiet

the later end of the route is aligned where customers have to use the 1st few cars and statistics probally would show a decline in crime and or rowdyness when near the conductor and workers that may be on the line going to the yard or PBP along with Police that is on that train as well.

add on Geographics.

PBK does not transport alot of HS kids or kids for that matter who for instance Coop city kids rather connect on the Bx28 bus and the Qbx1 is a mixture of riders from the 6 , the Bx4 and the Bx12.

now while the front end of the cars is geared for exit on uptown trains .

the rear to middle is reared for transport on the downtown trains add to the fact the Bronx express and you have balanced transition.

Lets also remember that the #6 does not have a crush of westchester county riders like the other Bronx Lines do (yes even the D/B)

Actually, I'd say the (6) would have more New Rochelle riders because of the W45 connection at Pelham Bay - even if it's just a few, it's more than any other.

The (2) at 241st and the (5) at Dyre, although very close to the county line, both access some very seedy parts of Mount Vernon. The W45 accesses a much more high-class part of New Rochelle.

I'd say it's a toss up b/w the 4 & the 6 as to which subway line carries the higher amt. of westchester riders to manhattan, etc...

but your premise ties more into demographics... the "class" of ppl. that reside in mt. vernon, compared to New Roc'...

I wouldn't use that as a factor in determining that the '6' line has the more quieter riders, etc....

^^ classic example.... The LIRR Pt. Jefferson Branch.... the ppl that use that branch are worse than that of the "main line" on the LIRR... the towns surrounding some of stations along the main line, are more lower class (farmingdale [that town really took a turn for the worst], wyandanch, brentwood, etc)...

No, the trash award for the LIRR has to go to the Babylon Branch. If you ride on Friday night you'll encounter drunks and teenage airhead girls.

nah fam, you're missing the point...

There are more upscale communities along the port jeff. line, than there are along the babylon line.... and riders along the pt jefferson branch are the most snobbish, arrogant, and downright rude bunch of ppl. you'll ride with... and p.s., you'll find the same ppl. you describe, when those stony brook students let out.... not a pretty sight....

you wont run into too much of that on the main line... ppl. on the main line, I find, are the most impatient.... don't get me wrong, there some rude ones also, but not on the level of the babylon, montauk, or the pt jefferson line....

the babylon branch does tend to hoard a bunch of drunks... look what surrounds the "downtown" areas of babylon, wantagh... yep, bars/pubs....

the main point was, one can't really say a group of riders are more quieter b/c they come from a higher class area....

all you is wrong because the New rochelle riders flock to the 2 train via the w42 or the w7 to the 20 (trust me I know people who do this) while the 45 has it's run but most of the people on the 45's route will take metro north they are not taking a slow bus to basically a local trian only to transfer again and some new rochelle would take the train to fordham and then transfer for the D and the 4 (least expensive if your on a budget.

But no, all I want is a nice ride without having to get angry about kids acting out of control and acting like they are several years younger than they are. It's just wishful thinking
