Thought to myself, either an (N) wuz runnin local, but at closer view, I saw that it wuz a (W) goin to Whitehall. Didnt get a chance to ride it cause I wuz gettin my check at regal cinemas, n even if I wasn't doin that, I missed it anyhow....maybe I can catch it next week.......juss lettin yall now

I guess the "W" line is now filled with R-68(a's)and soon R-160 B's as the "N" sister line.

I'm not sure; there might be. I haven't seen one since February, though.

I dont remember who said it on this board but i think someone said that the only slants/r-40's left are on the "B" line about 2 weeks-month ago.I live upstate ny and visit the 5 boroughs 1-2x a month but mainly weekends only so not sure either.

I am sure someone will confirm this.

This is just a start,i think starting June or July the R160B
will begin running full time on the W line.

R160s aren't going to the B. The B is going to have its r40s replaced with R68s.

R40s have not run on the (W) for the past two months, it has all been R68/A. Last week there was an R40 train runnig briefly but it has been taken off. As I said, briefly.

A T/O over at NYCTF confirmed that since last week an R160B Siemens set has been running on the (W). More will come in June and July, and the (W) runs 9 trains so 8 more sets to go.

North motor 8917, south motor 8857.

I saw it last Thursday going to my friend's house in Queens.

But, personally, I think the display is strange. The W doesn't quite look like a W. It's too narrow.

I confused it for M or N when I first saw it in a picture thread.

I agree with Lex on that but it does make sence for the (W) to have R160B because if the (W) begins or ends service , The T/O can chamge the route signs to (N) less than a second and those R160B cars can go on the N at astoria instead of changing rollsigns or taking the (W) back to 86th st to the coney island yard.

Right,i bet it's a pain for crew to change all those rollsigns
from W to N service on a set R68/A.with the R160's a T/O or C/R
can do it from their postion.easier then an an R68.

I finally saw it yesterday for the first time, and yes, the (W) on the display does look very strange indeed.

Well said. That's the entire reason the (W) is getting R160s.

Caught one today on the W at 23rd and Broadway when I was heading home, "Whitehall Street bound". Astoria LCL, Broadway LCL was on the side display. Then I caught another R160B on the N from 14th to Canal then an R160A on M to Middle Village. First time I had an all R160 day

Not sure if it's the conductor or a glitch, but the strip-board and LCD were screwed up. It was still displaying the route from the N. I went through all 10 cars at Whitehall...

I wonder why R160's are taken from the N line rather than the new sets that are going to be delivered.

W shares trains from the N since it shares the same yard as the N. Running R160's on the W allows flexibility at Astoria-Ditmars rather than to manually change all the roll signs of each cars from the N to W.
It technically doesn't matter about which R160's the W takes as eventually both the N and W will be 100% R160's.

Today's news -
Almost all N trains were R160, as usual. Only saw 1 non-NTT set which was an R68A consist.
Saw 2 - that's right, TWO R160 W trains today. Car numbers of the first one were 8863-8867 north end. The second one is (south) 8882-8878+8903-8907(North). The rest were R68s. 2 out of 9 W trains are R160. It is easy to tell the difference between N and W on the front, interior and FIND screens (especially the last two), because the outer slashes are curved outward like on the normal letter W. If you're hallucinating it looks like an N, but only if you look at it for a split second and it's not moving.

In other news, when I was hanging out at Ditmars Boulevard today an R40 pulled into the station (if I'm facing north it was on the left track) signed as an N. If pulls in, and the station agent makes an announcement saying that it is not in service. My guess is that it was going straight to the yard. It looked like it was on a trip just hours ago because of the blue stop smoking advertisement cards on the floor. Was probably headed light to Coney Island Yard, and then to Pitkin Yard for storage or 207th for scrapping. Some car numbers - 4356-4357, 4310-4311, 417X-417X.
