What do you like and/or dislike about the service in the Rockaways, the run over Jamaica Bay, the condition/location of the Rockaways stations, the three southern terminals, the late night local run, the express run from 168th Street to Euclid Avenue, the service north of 168th Street - everything (A)<A>?

the A line is one of my favorite lines (hence my display name)....so I don't really have any problems.

One thing is I wish they would rename those branches....the A to Ozone Pk & The Rockaways confuses ppl headed for these areas big time

I love the A over Jamaica Bay on sunny sky days!
I used to take (A) all time to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge long time.
Only problem is slow on bridge.
Even the Rockaway Park Shuttles are also wonderful.

Last time I got off Shuttle Bus for Cross Bay Bridge pedestrian walkway, I used to Beach 90th St. It was awful condition and looks like pidgeon was stuck somewhere between the stairs and something.

Well my friend you have not been to either Philadelphia or Washington DC areas subways.

PATCO(Philly's version of the Path)unless their a 'go' or construction goes about as fast as 35-40 Miles per hour on the Ben Franklin Bridge.

Ditto in Washington on the Metro subway between Petgaon City/Arlington(Va.)and L'Enfrant' Plaza in Downtown DC.

Slightly off-topic, don't forget that Port Authority TransHudson lines.
Newark-WTC trains are fast on bridge also.

I like the run between JFK and Broad Channel, especially on a clear day. Trains gain a good amount of speed before and after the drawbridge. I wouldn't want to live near any station east/south of the Rockaway Boulevard station because of the split headways though. *shivers at the thought of 20 minute weekend headways*

The express runs are OK, but not as great as people make them seem. The distance between stations along its route is what makes the A seem faster. The fastest express runs I've been on aren't along 8th Avenue/CPW and Fulton Street though.

I try to avoid it during rush hours though because of the heavy ridership. It's a bit inconsistent at times, but it does have good headways.

Overall, the A is an good route IMO.

I don't like the way the (A) is split into three branches for Rockaway/Ozone Park service. I have a proposal that would modify this, scrapping the shuttle entirely, and adding a new (H) route. All the stations from Euclid onwards would be as follows:

A/C/H Euclid Ave
A/C/H Grant Ave
A/C/H 80th St
A/C/H 88th St

C 104th St
C 111th St
C Ozone Park/Lefferts Blvd

H Aqueduct Racetrack

A/H Aqueduct/North Conduit Ave
A/H Howard Beach/JFK Airport
A/H Broad Channel

H Beach 90th St
H Beach 98th St
H Beach 105th St
H Rockaway Park/Beach 116th St

A Beach 67th St
A Beach 60th St
A Beach 44th St
A Beach 36th St
A Beach 25th St
A Far Rockaway/Mott Ave

So basically Sebbie you renaming the Rockpark shuttle/<A> Rock Park-Mid Manhattan rush hour express the "H" right?
I have no problem with that. I agree with the "C" being extended to Lefferts. However the Ozone Park NIMBY's will never agree to losing 8th Ave/Brooklyn express service at least weekdays.

However Sebbie i disagree with 24/7 Rockaway Park service to/from 168th or 207th St Manhattan. Have you been on the Rock Park shuttle late nights? On many trips between 1-5am there **zero riders.*

I can agree to the "H" running weekdays only 6am-11pm to/from Fulton station in Brooklyn and Manhattan via 8th Ave. However extended late night/weekend service is not needed.
Weekends/Late nights keep the Rock Park shuttle train or my preference a 'shuttle bus' late nights.

The (H) would never run west of Euclid, according to my proposal. It would only have 1-hour headways between midnight and 5 a.m.

Would not Rockaway Park branch riders 'scream' about losing "direct Manhattan rush hour service.' Ditto for Lefferts Branch riders too? I agree with you on the "C" going to Lefferts but playing devils advovcate Sebbie as you know Ozone Park NIMBYS would be very angry.

So, Ozone Park NIMBY's would object to a (C) train in their neighborhood, but not an (A) train? I don't understand.

Rockaway Park riders could quickly get a transfer to the (A) or (C) at Euclid. Lefferts riders, according to my proposal, would already have Manhattan access via the (C).

Also sebbie what trains stop at the very important "Rockaway/Cross Bay Blvds." station? Also would not terminaing the "H" at Euclid create 'congestion' problems.

I suggest instead Sebbie terminating it(the "H") at Rockaway/Cross Bay and then relay the "H" at middle tracks to go back to Rock Park.

They could just transfer from the (C) to the (A) at Euclid.

All three lines, the (A), (C), and (H), would stop there.

Sebbie are you aware about the congestion problems at Euclid if the "H" went there?

Okay. Would Broadway Junction be a better terminal, then?

Nope. That why i suggested Rockaway Blvd is best choice so the "H" can connect to both the Far Rock and Lefferts trains.

here is what they should do. remake the K train and have it express from 207th to lefferts and the A train express from 207th to far rockway. i find it somewhat imaginary but i think it would work

The only thing I would change is have the Rockaway Park S terminate at Howard Beach especially winter so riders won't have to wait in the cold for an arriving A train to come in the cold and open area in the bay.
Plus who knows if there are riders from the Rockaway Park side that would prefer a 1-seat ride to catch the AirTrain to JFK?

Are the (A) Lefferts Boulevard (A) Mott Avenue and the <A> Beach 1i6th Street counted as one train running to three terminals or are they counted as two trains?
