If the (R) receives the green light and returns 24/7, what might be the late nights service pattern on Broadway between the (R)(N)(Q) and on Fourth Avenue between the (R)(D)(N) in terms of express/local operation?

My guess(i could be wrong)

"N" runs express between 36th/Sunset Park and Canal St.

"D" stays local in Brooklyn late nights only.

"E" also stays local late nights only on QB.

The R is the best Local line in the system.Once in a while I take the R (R32) during the week after school and its a fun ride ,but the only part that kills me is those curves but othe than that the R is a good line.

While the R does do a decent job as a local I have to say that the V does a better job. Not to mention the IRT locals.

Hey kid as immortal Gary Coleman aka "Arnold Jackson-Drummond" would say on classic tv show "Diffe'ernt Strokes' would say "WHAT YOU TALKING ABOUT?"

This is same kid who says the R-32's are best subway car ever made and wanted every NYC subway car to have them. I am not Lex express and scream at you for your opiopns but you off base on the "R" train comment.

Try R32 3838 waiting for an "R" train on a Saturday afernoon(which i have railing/shopping at Woodhaven/Queens Center Mall)for as much as 20-30 minute when that line is delayed.

And now with the "G" finally ending service most likely by end of year/early 2009, that puts more pressure on the "R" especially along QB. I guess R-32 3838 is the 'king of expressalcholics' lol and wants all local stations in NYC subway gone. I don't even know if R-32 3838 has even riden the "R" train for his beloved R-32 E Train.

Not attacking R32 3838 as he a high school kid, but he needs to brough back on point. The "R" is one of the most delayed/unrealible locals in system because it's the longest.

Only solution if the MTA does make the "R" a 24/7 line again is maybe consider taking these steps:

1)On selected trips during rush hours the "R" could run via the Manhattan Bridge between Canal and Dekalb.

1a)When train is delayed more by 20 minutes (similar to the "F" doing battery runs skipping stops in Lower Manhattan/Brooklyn between West 4th St & Church Ave)the "R" also uses the bridge to make up for time.

Those of you who suggested the "R" run express along 4th Ave in Brooklyn, it not possible due to track layout and the switching would cause delays on the "D & N" lines. The above suggested is only solution when "R" is late along with increased headways.

R32 3838. I am not saying it occurs every day but what your reaction when the "R" is delayed along Queens Blvd on weekend when "G" is not running? and many 'express"("E & F" trains) pass by?

guys what about this solution for the "R" train.

Only solution if the MTA does make the "R" a 24/7 line again is maybe consider taking these steps:

1)On selected trips(about every 20-30 minutes) during rush hours only the "R diamond" could run via the Manhattan Bridge between Canal and Dekalb. Rest of this line route stays same.

If the R is an unreliable local, would the R diamond perhaps cause even more confusion? Because then, more R trains will have to be added...
Just a thought.

it's only the best line when it takes you from point A to point B... yeh, I get that part of it...

but otherwise, what are you basing this on?
I am infact assuming that you've been on every other local train to make an erratic judgment such as the one you have made....

I actually feel sorry for 4th av (brooklyn) and QB (Queens) riders that have to put up w/ the R train every single day... and worse, it isn't the most frequent of lines either; they come few & far between..

bro, I wouldn't bother w/ an R diamond; that wouldn't save as much time as you'd think it would... let's not forget about the other lines that use the manhattan bridge as well....

& yeh, forget about R's running express along 4th av; that doesn't solve anything... what would serve local stops north of 59th when the M doesn't run in brooklyn, the N? fat chance....

that idea #1a... hah, I agree the R is a slow local... but 20 minutes? how often would that scenario happen though?

the way I see it, the way the R line is situated, it's in a catch-22.... can't run exp. in brooklyn (for reasons you already stated), it'd be redundant having it run exp. in manhattan (can't swap it w/ the Q; too much switching involved)... as for the headache along QB, you can't make R's run exp. to 71st/continental either...

so, what can you do \:\(

Speaking of (R) train, why does R Shuttle runs express from 59th to 36th Sts on late night on NB track?

If the "R" diamond idea is a bad idea even if the route is way late 'more than 15 minutes off schedule' to use the Manhattan Bridge, than here another possible controversial idea?

What about termnating during weekdays from 7am-8pm about every other alternative "R" at end at Whitehall?

Long term if the Sunnyside subway yards were ever bulit just past Queensboro Plaza, then you could do these changes:

"W" runs on 'oringal' R route between Astoria/Ditmars and 95th Street, 24/7.

"R" runs daily 5am-1am between 179th St and Whitehall.

"N" runs between Astoria and Stillwell/Coney Island via express.
Late nights between 57thSt/7th & Stillwell.

Just a thought.

During the Weekly Rush Hour trips Extra R32s are added to the R, in the morning some R trains terminate at 59th st then they bring the Extra cars to the coney island yard and a few R trains terminate at canal st then swithes to the 2 extra tracks then the extra trains are stored at the City Hall lower level, Also years ago before the W train came the R used to terminate At whitehall st.

R-32 3838 have you waited at QB local stop such as Woodhaven Bl-Queens Center Mall? I go there sometimes and man on occasion you can wait up to 20-30 minutes when the "R" is delayed. Huge Crushloaded crowds develop especially when the "G"(now most weekends)is not on QB. Any reactions?

That why i critictzed you R-32 3838. To say the "R" is best local in NYC subway, that not smart thing to say. Have you heard of the #1, #6 to name a few? Although more crowded they are much more frequent/realible particuarlly on weekends.

I've only used the (R) for traveling within Manhattan. I've never taken it to get to Brooklyn or Queens.
