note: i think we all know a Q beats an R from 57th & 7th to dekalb, and probably by a hefty margin, so with that in mind, 2 parts to this question:

a Q & R both leave leave 57th & 7th at the same time (6:10 pm on a weeknight).
1) how many minutes AFTER the Q arrives at dekalb does the R finally arrive there
2) what station (or in between stations) is the Q at when the R arrives at dekalb

....you mean to tell me that if I took a Q train from 57th to Dekalb, I would wait 1/2 an hour for an R train to come @ Dekalb???

Because, it's a local and an R46 runs on the R, of course he's going to exaggerate.

think about it.

the R trains go like what 2 MPH at city hall because of the huge curve, and then again at rector street and white hall street, and the ride under the east river isn't really that nice either, and plus after that you have to deal with dekalb and all that crap.

even if its an R32 it will still be slower.

Ever think about the W and R line running on the same track?and
DeKalb is understandable, but after that it's smooth sailing.

And this has nothing to do with weather it's an R32 or R46.

^^ yup... that's what I was gettin at, in a nutshell...

he lets his disdain for a trainset cloud his judgments... you know, you try to talk sense to some people... get them to think a little...

*shrugs*

anyway, just to entertain the reply:

ok, and the Q has points where it lags along its run as well... the stint b/w canal st & atlantic av isn't exactly mach 1... every line has stints where it's slower than others...

case in point, the Q does not pick up about a half-an-hour on the R from 57th to dekalb... period... doesn't make a difference what silly little reasons you have for despising (hating) a trainset the R runs on...

The "Q" and "R" aren't real good comparison.

I think the #4 and the "Q" is a better comparison.

#4 from 59th Street and the "Q" from 57th Street. Who will get to Atlanta Avenue first?

I will like to put my bets on the #4. Other than the "A" express. The #4 will smoke the hell out of any other line that competes with it. The "Q" is next in line, but it isn't a true express train though.

^^ the Q would, but not by much... for the simple fact that the 4 train makes stops (plural) in lower manhattan... and it makes more stops in brooklyn before it gets to atlantic...

all the Q does after canal is hop on the bridge, takes it's time entering dekalb... and takes it's time entering atlantic...

Southbound into Atlantic there is a single shot timer that does not clear until you are almost on top of it. I mean ON TOP OF IT where you can almost NOT see the trip arm.

The Q does crawl on the Manhattan Bridge. It slows down throug several switches entering Dekalb Avenue. However, it circumvents lower Manhattan. This could go either way.

Sure does... and it's equally as bad when I look out the window in the mornin and see a B51, and even *expletive* 18-wheelers zooming past... lol..

but yeh, you pretty much restated my point... I figure the 'Q' would get to Atlantic first w/i a timespan << 5 minutes...

There is only a 12 minute difference between tunnel and bridge, IF (IF,IF) everything is working right.

i don't hate just the R46's on the R, i just hate the R line in general because it is horrible and ridiculous and the MTA taking away the G on weekends only makes me hate it even more

hahaha... I know you don't... you cannot stand the R46's on ANY line...

but um, back on topic...

ok, you say the R runs about 2 MPH or so around city hall... granted, trains run slower in that area...

you still haven't touched on where the Q picks up about that much time b/w those two stations(57th / dekalb)... I'm tryin to see a scenario where the R would be that far behind the Q (outside of a G.O., that is)...

remember, the Q is the Brighton local... you say it would be somewhere around Sheepshead Bay, if an R pulled up at DeKalb... I wan't you to sit & think about that...

w/ that said... plz. tell us where the Q picks up that much time ;\)

^^ and don't say that stretch b/w Prospect Park & 7th av either... trains do tend to fly in-between those stations, but it aint that fast... lol...
