Yesterday's Metro paper had a story about the MTA closing the Smith-9th Sts. station for up to 1 year while repairs are made to the Culver Viaduct. The repairs will also lead to temporary platforms at the 4th Ave. station.

I think (G) should reterminate at Church Av until Smith-9th St get reopen.
B77 should expand for this G.O. to Church Av to help B75.
MTA Bus B103 LTD should also help by stop at Smith-9th St, so (F) riders wil have faster access to station in Downtown Brooklyn or other stations B103 meets.
In this idea, B75, B77 and B103 should provide free-boarding at 4th Av-9th St, while B75/B77 will provide free boarding at 4th, 7th, and Church Avs as well.

The G should run to Church Avenue 24/7 which was always meant to be the terminal...I have never been able to understand why they continue to use Smith 9th Street to terminate the G train when it is evident to me, and I'm not a history buff, that the terminal at Smith 9th was meant to be a temporary thing until the line was extended to Church.

And the most ludicrous thing is on weekends they relay the train at Church AVenue anyway....why not try to meet the needs of passengers by allowing them to stay on the train and send it on the local tracks and at least give the passengers the transfer at 4th Avenue...makes absolutely no sense.

Matha during the Culver(9th St Bridge repair work)projectthe "G" will be extended to Church Ave 24/7 stating early next year (2008).
As the article in Metro also provides, the Smith/9th stop is in bad shape with faded paint, escalators that often break down, almost certain abestatos problems and rodents too.

I suspect the MTA will probably extend the B-77 to 15th St/Prospect Park west station and increase headways on the B-75 too. That makes alot more sense than say running a 'shuttle bus' between 4th Ave/9th and Smith/9th.
Not sure if this extension of the "G" to/from Church is permament though.

I think Smith-9th St should have both elevators and stairs available because those stairs are so tired ing because of highest point.
They should install elevator like on Junction Blvd (7) because that's only elevator that fast.

I use that station during the Open House NY in 2006 when I was attending Mary B. Whaling tour.

This staircase at Smith-9th St is feel like climbing longest step from Dyckman St/Broadway to Cloisters in Ft. Tryon Park.

I think they are going to keep the G to Church Avenue change in place for a year to see how many people use it all the way to Church. If it is justified that people use it, then it will stay extended to Church.

It would be justified as the G would stop at 4th Av so riders can transfer for the M/R lines below rather than get off for the F for one stop at Smith-9th.
