The G should run to Church Avenue 24/7 which was always meant to be the terminal...I have never been able to understand why they continue to use Smith 9th Street to terminate the G train when it is evident to me, and I'm not a history buff, that the terminal at Smith 9th was meant to be a temporary thing until the line was extended to Church.
And the most ludicrous thing is on weekends they relay the train at Church AVenue anyway....why not try to meet the needs of passengers by allowing them to stay on the train and send it on the local tracks and at least give the passengers the transfer at 4th Avenue...makes absolutely no sense.
Matha during the Culver(9th St Bridge repair work)projectthe "G" will be extended to Church Ave 24/7 stating early next year (2008).
As the article in Metro also provides, the Smith/9th stop is in bad shape with faded paint, escalators that often break down, almost certain abestatos problems and rodents too.
I suspect the MTA will probably extend the B-77 to 15th St/Prospect Park west station and increase headways on the B-75 too. That makes alot more sense than say running a 'shuttle bus' between 4th Ave/9th and Smith/9th.
Not sure if this extension of the "G" to/from Church is permament though.
