I heard from my friend who works at Rubbert Yippe Towers on E. 91st St told me on the on the late night (Q) train he takes and told me that gangs get on (Q) train and cut their beards with sccisor while bearded man sleeps, and once it arrives Neck Rd, they pulled emergency brake and exit.
Also, not to sleep in the subway or train either everywhere and anytime, even if long ride.

It's best to just always be on your guard at all times. And as Yuki pointed out, never doze off on the train.

Not only do you need to watch for robberies, but for sick freaks as well (especially the females).

Even on MTA's DIGITAL SIGN says, "BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS BY STAY AWAKE." STAY AWAKE IS MORE ALERT THAN SLEEPING."
Passengers and homeless still sleeps.
I remember from American's Most Wanted, homeless lady from NY got assauslated, and that suspect destroy boxes which she was using for house.
My other tip is:
1. Backpacks and bags must be on front of you on buses, flights, trains, or even ferries.
2. Never put passports, wallets in back pocket (if jean has back pockets).
3. For ladies & girls, never flash any accessories that are value.

Sleeping on the subway is against the law:

Section 1050.7

Disorderly conduct.
No person on or in any facility or conveyance shall:

c. sleep or doze where such activity may be hazardous to such person or to others or may interfere with the operation of the Authority’s transit system or the comfort of its passengers;

I meant homeless lady who was on AMW wasn't in subway, she was outside.
Just like in movie Terminal, nobody reads sign.
One time when I was waiting for Bay Ridge-bound (R) at Bklyn59th, two girls sit on front step in front of COP, and officer told them they cannot sit down there.

Damn, you can't walk between the cars, can't sleep on the train... next up, it'll be a violation to breathe out of sync with the other straphangers. Well, if they'd like to ticket me for that, I hope they wake me gently.

If the train is crowded then why can you not sleep? I would think it would be kind of hard to steal the person's wallet if the person was sitting next to another passenger next to them.

Just wanted to comment on #2....

I never understood why dudes put their wallets in their back pockets... and worse, ppl who carry their social security cards & (fold up) their birth certificates & place them in their wallets as well... to me, that's just plain idiocy....

The E line has an assortment of isolated stations. And the wallet in the back pocket isn't a good idea...it's also not very comfortable so why do people do it (???)

Basically if you keep to yourself like sleeping next to the corner of a train and let the wall support you and your legs are not blocking the storm doors then I do not see how you can be ticketed for such an offense.
Now if you are sleeping in the train and it is being taken out of service to go into the yard then of course it is a violation.

How well are trains checked at the last stop (to make sure people aren't still hiding in them?)

The crew walks through the train, no they don't check every cab, just the public area.

^^ News to me also.... and yes, I hear you bro...

wtf @ this... cant place your bag on a seat (even if it's on an empty *expletive* subway car), and now this.... hell, push comes to shove, they'll remove all the seats out of the train & then make a rule telling passengers they cannot stand up on the train...

*smh*

It's not as hot as the 149th St./Grand Concourse station.

Summer or winter, I work up a sweat every - every - time I'm in that station.

By sleep they mean taking up 3 seats and lying on a bench. They don't mean sitting in your seat and dozing off.
