They won't be in service for quite a while, not enough crews
trained to handle them yet.

MTA NYCT seems particularly uncoordinated with this rollout

The MTA could stall for as long as they want to.i'm in no rush
to ride an R160A-1.

who cares? i mean take the r143 to fulfill your desires. Its not that much of a difference than a r160 except the accelerating sound, the FIND screen

There are not enough Larry Crew trained in the 160, it ran once I think.
In addtion the 160 does not CBTC computers so for a following 143 in CBTC mode you can end up sitting at a green light because of the extra restriction the computer puts on the train when following a non CBTC leader.

are they just testing on the L? that line doesn't need newer cars since they have the 143s. those are fine enough.

No, the L needs R160A's to replace the remaining R42's running on the L. the R143's are not enough to cover all of the L's service.

And the reason they have to replace the older cars is to get CBTC running, as the R42 are not CBTC compatible and the R160A-1 are. (well, not saying that the other R160s aren't, but those are the ones going on the L, so...)

They are "compatable to CBTC" but NONE of the R160's A1 or others have the CBTC equipment installed. So if a R143 is in CBTC it does not matter if it is following an R42 or and R160 the computer doesn't know the differnece. All it knows is the train in front does not have CBTC so the 160 will go slower.

The deal with the R160s on the L is there are 2 sets. Once the crews are trained for the 160s, they will swap out the R42s and put in the 2 sets of R160. The 160 has made round trips every once in a while on the L in rush hour. I myself have caught a R160 during rush hour with a friend of mine on the Larry.

A few times in June I saw a set of R160s with the Manhattan Bound motor 8333 testing on the Larry. 8333 was never put in service though, instead other R160A sets were put in service to see how everything went. I got on a R160A in service in rush hour, so they do throw them in every once in a while.

Get your last R42 rides and pics while you can.

The problem is also that during the peak, 60 R143s are usually laid up in the yards.

Also, is the 8329-36 set in service yet on the L? I have seen that train laid up on the same track for a while.

I never thought of that Brighton. Sounds like yet another reason to finish upgrading the L

I went on that train the other day and didn't even noticed until I was looking for my little corner seat that pops up. I was just confused, thinking "Where's the little corner seat that folds up???"

They removed them so that wheelchair bound people have a spot.
both R160A-1/2 and the R160B don't have them,i didn't like them.
everytime someone got up from that seat,it sound like a gunshot
and it would scare the hell outta me.

I always get up slowly from those seats. I liked them though, since I can be rather reclusive. I don't think it blocked the wheelchair peoples' way since it folded up.

I would have thought that all new equipment on the L would be CBTC (143 & 160)

Is this not the case?
