This eyesore of a building is right across from my N27 bus stop in Glen Cove. Note the 2 bums sleeping there.

This junkyard is right behind the broken wooden fence (with a hole big enough to fit a camera through). This is directly in back of my N27 bus stop in that trashy Glen Cove

And finally my useless local laundry, where 50-75% of the machines are broken (note the white signs indicating broken dryers)

Man I gotta get outta trash Cove. Maybe we can start a petition? :p

More photos to come, keep it right here!

Apparently someone vandalized the Verizon phone control box, leaving it wide open. No wonder why my phone line always has trouble! Fortunately wasnt here too long today, the bus was on time.

Isnt that an inviting little strip of stores?
This is where the other N27 bus stop is.

Glen Cove is ghetto. Didn't Ashanti come from there? LOL. Those photos come as no surprise to me. I know quite a few neighborhoods that are just as ghetto as Brooklyn. Central Islip, Valley Stream, Rockville Centre, Hempstead, Freeport, Bay Shore is ghetto too now. It's ridiculous. The thing is though, the same trash from the 5 boroughs move there

Glen Cove is not so bad, though like many Long
Island towns, its main street is a bit depressed.

A half mile away is nice, and Stanco Park is really nice in summer.

It gets worse as you head north on Glen Cove avenue, by the hill

That white building is a run down rooming house. It oftens has 10 to 20 bags of trash in front of it. Down the hill to your left are the Glen Cove housing authority projects. I didnt dare take my camera out by there (even from the car!). You'll see the crooked utility pole on the left also. The wires are also frayed and have alot of slack (drooping, wrinkling, not visible from photo). I guess even LIPA dont dare come here.

This is the run down strip mall across from the projects. It is much worse than it looks (blurry because we were moving). It HAD a Kennedy Fried Chicken in it (you know, those run down chicken joins you find in depressed areas) but I believe that closed. Most of the stores are vacant except for a laundromat (dont even think about doin laundry there) and a food place that is something different everytime I pass. Often a big hangout for the projects, you'll see groups of kids hanging out there (like 40-50 at a time).
You'll notice a large SUV in the picture. Yup, even in the projects they are unavoidable!
Stay tuned for more images of Glen Cove decay.

How much $$$ does a room go for there? It looks better than the rooming house I live in.

You havent seen the worst yet!

That brick building in the background (hidden by the trees) is an abandoned building, with all the windows smashed. It is a hazardous site, but that doesnt deter the bums from living in there.

Watch your step! This has been here for months, apparently no one sued yet.

Garbage right on the sidewalk! Hasnt anyone heard of DUMPSTERS?

The bus stops here! You'll have to walk the rest of the way up to Forest ave, the only habitable part of Trash Cove.

This is where the taxi company is. No wonder their cabs are always breaking down, and take 35 min or more to arrive. They make LI Bus look top notch!

Close-up of the burnt out abandoned warehouse in Glen Cove. It appears this building may date back quite a ways.
And finally a pic of the bus stop (end of the line for N21 and N27 buses) on Bridge st in Glem Cove.

Hmmm, all those towns you mentioned all have significant black & hispanic populations. Most of the ppl moving there "the trash from the 5 boroughs" are black & hispanic. confused So in essence your saying "minorities" turn "good" ex-white communities into rundown ghettos??

As far as Bay Shore is concerned, it depends on what streets you are on as some parts of the town are very nice while others aren't. The same thing goes for Brentwood.

These two areas are nothing like Hempstead & Roosevelt.

I dont think Rockville Centre is that bad, I've been through most parts and they seem quite OK. Even by the bus depot and the apt buildings everything seems in good shape, unlike Trash Cove.
Also RVC has its OWN power company and power plant, so when the blackout happened they had power back in minutes, not hours.
Trash Cove is also a ripoff. Everything is more expensive here, food, repairs, etc. Thats why I dont do any business in Trash Cove.
Damn shops in Glen Cove wanted like $500 more to fix my friend's broken car mirror than the ones elsewhere in Nassau county, fortunately he took his business elsewhere with that. Then his beeper busted and some local Trash Cove place where he bought it from made him pay $40 to get it fixed, AFTER he gave it in. Not to mention stuff like baked goods from the supermarket always cost $2-3 more than supermarkets elsewhere.
Trash Cove is a ghetto, and a ripoff artist's paradise. Did I mention some bum broke into the basement of my friend's apartment in Glen Cove and spent the night?
LEMME TELL YOU...Glen Cove is bad, its the most pathetic community in the county. Did I mention the City of Glen Cove wasted 1 million dollars on trying to save an old sinking ship, but the ship sank anyway. There goes 1 million down the drain. Could've gone to fixing up the pathetic excuse for a town Glen Cove is.
Rockville Centre does not belong in the same sentance as Glen Cove, RVC is a real town with nice streets.
As far as Glen Cove goes, I will now BOYCOTT Trash Cove . Many of my friends dont and now I join them. No more hearing "oh, we dont carry this" or "that'll be 20% more than what you could've paid somewhere else".
And the last time I ate Chinese in Trash Cove there was a roach on my plate (no kidding!).

And all those weeds there by the bus stop and phone box, that's POISON IVY. I saw a few ppl waiting there learned the hard way.

More bad news for Glen Cove. Word is the movie theater in town (and the only one for MILES) the Glen Cove Cinelpex is closing next month. Well I guess people in Glen Cove will now have a 20-30 min ride to the nearest theater.
And Sweezy's is going to be going out of business. This is all of the Sweezy's stores. So there will be 2 new vacancies in an already vacant town. Boy, I'm leaving just in time.
Its also lookin alot like Hempstead by School street. Only a matter of time Glen Cove will be one of LI's worst ghettos, and most isolated community in Nassau county. I hope my friend in Glen Cove gets a security system, because if I hadnt mentioned it before, some bums broke in and slept in the basement. The police were contacted, but they couldnt do much.
Now if you take a look at Nassau county's other "ghettos", like Hempstead, Roosevelt, New Cassel, and Freeport, most of them have major revitalization projects going on or starting soon. There is no such thing for Glen Cove.
Which leads me to believe Glen Cove will become Nassau's meanest, most isolated ghetto in 5-10 years.

For the record Valley Stream isn't ghetto, its just the patronage at the MALL that may make it SEEM ghetto.

Maybe things cost more in Glen Cove because of an extra city tax?

Remember folks Glen Cove and Long Beach are the 2 cities of Nassau County wink

Hmm ... looks nice compared to some neighborhoods in Freehold.

I've passed through Glen Cove before, and it doesn't seem all as bad as you're making it sound. Pass through some towns like Asbury Park or Atlantic City first; that'll make Glen Cove look nice.

Well the bad part of Glen Cove is Glen Cove ave between that ugly strip by Sea Cliff ave down the hill by the projects.
It's certainly not one of the worst "ghettos" in Nassau. I wouldn't really characterize it as much as a ghetto as just an isolated kinda run down area. But that's mainly Glen Cove ave. Cedar Swamp and Forest ave side, as well as around the new Staples (School st) are OK, the bad part is mainly Glen Cove ave.

Yeah, This is a common trend on Long Island. People just keep getting chased further east. They keep moving farther and farther away. 12 years ago, Oceanside was an exemplary town, with many students in the then Westinghouse scholarship. Today, it is struggling to be called a middle class town. So a137, you derive from that what you want. Facts are facts. Tilrose Avenue, The Oceanside Motel, The abandoned edwards. Glen Cove isn't alone, Freeport, Hempstead, Roosevelt, Uniondale, etc.. And if you want to use the excuse that i'm citing minority communities : The Hempstead school district had 2 riots in one day not long ago and the Roosevelt school district almost had to be shut down and totally abandoned.

I know i'll get flamed & pls dont make this a race issue ppl(i'll make a disclaimer: Mastic-Shirley is mostly white, but some TRASHY ppl there...Tattoo Parlors & Harley signs abound Mountauk HWY CR 80, in the area), but i notice IMO if theres bus stop signs on LI (esp routes w/good headways) the nabe usually aint so great, of course theres exceptions, but if it runs every 5-10 mins, & after midnite,(thnik N-4,6,40/41...thos they run thru some nice areas, mainly the terminals of the routes are shady) probably a crummy nabe, which is why this surprises me b/c i've been up 2 geln cove & never seen this (driven up glen cove road, toward where like shop rite is...guess thats the nice part), plus being that the N-21 & 27 have crummy headways (up 2 70 mins most of the day/weekends, & the 27 didnt even used 2 run sunday) I figured it was mostly a snob area, & the bus was just running for the poor slobs working for the rich snobs(think N-58 Great Neck-1 HOUR headway on weekends)...thanks 4 enlightening us QTRAIN, good ur leaving there, first Johnny Boy retired, & now ur leaving, so things are looking up)

Well I've been out of Glen Cove for well over a year. This thread was an old thread that got "revived".
But you're right about Glen Cove, and lemme tell you the N27 especially gets packed. The 5:20pm N27 is SRO, mainly because the bus that left before it was 50 minutes ago! On a weekday!
I still have to take the N27 to Glen Cove once a week for my "appointment".
I've been telling LI Bus for years to have bus service up Forest ave since that's where most of the shopping is, but I think the snobs up there don't want the bus over there. I remember a few years ago being up on Forest ave (someone drove me over there) and a bus driver who wasn't in service dropped a passenger off there. God bless him.
The N27 has the highest amount of day laborers and maids than any other LI Bus route I've been on. Glen Cove is the only neighborhood in Nassau has a "ghetto" and still has awful bus service.
BTW even though the N22 runs at 20 min headways on rush hours on weekdays that bus still gets packed. Alot of ppl from New Cassel use it, perhaps even shorter headways are justified.
