The (MTA) says they want 152 IRT stations with the signs by the end of 2011. However, I only count 150 IRT stations. What am I missing?

I have a question. Why would Marble Hill have train arrival times in comparison to the rest of the line?

Marble Hill, while on the other side of the Broadway Bridge is technically part of Manhattan (even though geographically speaking it's in the Bronx). Its the fingernail of high end Manhattan-like living that snakes along the Harlem River to where it meets the Hudson (Spuyten Duyvil and Riverdale makes up the rest of that finger lol). If that was what ur asking as to why he's separating that station from the rest of the Bx. Its funny tho, cause at that 225th St station, Manhattan lies on the west side of Broadway going up that small side street along the river, while the Bronx is on the east side of Broadway going down towards the Target.

On a note that's more on topic, Parkchester won't get them until station work is complete in October when the southbound opens back up for business.

That's what I figured. I would use the "Marble Hill is Manhattan" theory, but then again, what about stops in Inwood and Washington Heights? My assumption is it has something to do with the Metro-North connection. You probably get a large amount of Riverdale and above commmuters.

Now he divides it up by borough, but as we have figured out there's no real rhyme or reason for the order of stations (major political pull stations such as 77th street on the 6 doesn't have them yet, and we know that's the station the Mayor uses to go to work).

I really feel those commuters up the hill from 225th street prefer their nice comfy seat on a local Metro North train then squeezing into a (1), most of them can afford it. I don't really see the point in dividing it up by borough, its the total number of available stations that's the goal, by TA's standards. We know not all IRT stations are available yet, but its the ones that are we're concerned about. I prefer to look at it by section, which he has it, and leave the boroughs out of it entirely.

For instance, the Pelham line is complete, except for Parkchester, which isn't done yet because of station rehab there (other stations currently in rehab and those about to go into rehab had it prior to their closing).

Does anybody know why the Shuttles pa/cis isn't active yet?

I'm not even sure if ATS is functional in that area at all (I'll ask next time I chat with the ATD or TD at GC), and it may never be, a cheaper option probably is that stuff they doing over on the A/C lines in upper Manhattan. Its not like something other than the shuttle is stopping there, lol.

Marble Hill is considered part of Manhattan, even though it's in the Bronx.I have the two shuttle stations factored into the total station count.

BTW, the only reason I have it organized by borough is for organizational purposes, as opposed to listing each line in alphabetical order. I feel that it makes it slightly easier to find a certain line you might be looking up information on.

Did you ever find out if the 42nd S will get PA/CIS work done.

I wonder where they will put the ones at 149-GC. I dont recall any installation downstairs yet, and the old ones are upstairs still that just show time and date. Should be a couple on that mezzanine level, the 2/5 info on one between the two staircases leading downstairs to the WPL, and the 4 info on the other between the staircases leading up to the Jerome line, along with those on the platforms themselves. They should also be on that upper mezzanine that joins up both island plats (one for the 4, the other the 2/5).

I belive they will do both sections of 149 gc on 4 pltfrm
And the Mott av 2/5 platform.

Thanks for the update, 3348. As for the functionality of these clocks, I can say that they still have some work to be done. They're only about a minute or two off.

I will say that my experience has been about the same. Maybe a one or two minute differential on the arrival times. This is mostly due to the intangibles of Dispatchers holding trains and spacing of trains.

The time arrival information is determined by the positioning of the train. Since the train cannot be linked to GPS to better track the time, they rely on a series of gates that the train passes through to guesstimate the arrival time of the train.

Hopefully they will improve or perfect this system in due time.

Make no doubt about it is happening wether we like it or not and 3348 thanks.

They are a godsend; although I remember some NYCT employees throwing out stuff like they are not necessary, that the next train will arrive when it arrives and garbage like that. It is such a pleasure, for exmple, riding the tube in London or the metgro in Paris or the U Bahn in Berlin to know when the next train is due. Why it took NYC so long to realize how valuable this information is remains one of the great mysteries of life.

Why can't they roll this out at the express stations where there is a higher volume of local riders? Just display it for the 6 only. I typically ride from Union Sq to GCT and tend to take the local because it is less crowded and I am completely shut out of this program.
