Do you really dislike the (W) train from Ditmars Boulevard to Whitehall and if so, why and how do you feel about the (N) train from Ditmars Boulevard to Coney Island via Sea Beach?

Yes I dislike the W, I feel it does more harm than good. Look if the SAS had been built and the N/Q were sent up the UES along with SAS, then I would be cool with the W because it would be serviving the Astoria line BY ITSELF.
However in this case it does not. Instead its just used to pick up the slack for the N/R lines which is ridiclous.
Now Im not really a daily N rider but I do know that the (N) service needs to improve. For one thing it should be running 5-7 mins headways that way it can actually keep up with the crowds in Queens because it currently is not much better than the R/W trains.
N stands for never R stands for rarely W stands for waste
Overall the whole Bway Line is a mess it needs reform. If it was up to me I would do this
N-every 5-7 mins R-every 4-6 mins V-every 10 mins
W line is eliminated.
Now if possible I would try to extend the R/V to 179 st and make the F run via Hillside express since the Forest Hills terminal is congested, however if the R can run every 4-6 mins out of Forest Hills then great if not extend it to 179 st. Now if there is a strong oppostion from riders at the local stations who would lose direct F train service and the MTA can't implement this extension then just run additonal special rush hour R trains out of 179 st that way there is still an increase in R service despite the congested terminal. Then on weekends the R can terminate at Forest Hills since trains are layed up on the express tracks north of Forest Hills.
Also I mention the V train cause I dont think the V should be running 12 TPH, cause it doesmt have that kind of ridership demand and some of those V trains can be cut to make room for more R service.

Just to a clear up a few things, N train service operates every 7-8 minutes during rush hour, not every 10. The V runs every 6-8 minutes, or in other words 8-10TPH - not 12. V trains are SRO and get good ridership by the time they reach Queens Plaza going manhattan bound.
It all depends on if the line runs with other lines during a portion of its route. Headways out of Dyre for the AM rush are round 10 minutes. Now it merges with <5>s out of 238 and then (2)s and then mergers again with (4)s in Manhattan. Also the idea is not to have as many trains as possible in the rush no matter what line it is, its what the ridership accurately supports.

I didn't realize that. Thanks for that info. Its like the E & F on QB during rush hour...the headways are longer that way the trains aren't so close together by the time the E & F "meet up" at Continental Av. That all makes sense.
