Good survey. The results are actually surprising to me, I had always heard people complain about old trains more than they gave them credit. How many people did you ask? And when?

The survey was taken at least 2-3 months ago since the thread starter posted 2 months ago. Over time customers tend to get used to the new trains, despite how much they may love or hate them, so if the survey was taken now the results would probably be different (also considering the fact that the F should now be almost all R160).

it was me and two others, in total we asked 256 people of all ages. it took about 4 1/2 hours to conduct and many people didnt want to give up an answer, but i would say out of 400 people 256 actually answered our questions completely and were very polite. we started this survey in late october and finished in November.

It's very interesting. Personally, I love both cars so the F is fun for me no matter what they use. I look forward to seeing what the follow up survey has in store.

What do you guys think about the seats though? I think the R46 is better because it has more seats, the seats are bigger, and the seats are comfortable. I never feel comfortable leaning back on a R160 seat and usually can't even get a seat!

The R160 was built to hold as many people as possible. The R46 was built for comfort.

I would prefer r-46 f trains better. They are much bigger and more space to sit or stand. Well as always, I would prefer r-32s even better.

You should leave it as tit is now. Half and half is good!

While the trains look nice, there is less room on the new trains than on the old -- 75 seats vs. 43, and less standing room. I get on 4 stops from the beginning and forget a seat, there's no room to stand. AND for the past 2 weeks, the electronic map on my ride home has not worked. That's progress? This is one of the most crowded lines, so they reduce space? Makes sense.

Yup plenty of sense according the MTA standards. If a line gets more ridership, then they'll increase headways between trains, making sure they're jam packed at each station--even at the the second or third stop, and last but no least, make sure that train sizes decrease because there are more passengers. Ahhh makes perfect sense MTA smile! But while the E is 100% R160, I miss the R32's of course. Its nice to see R160's on the F but I'd HATE to see the R46's go so soon.

The reason there are more seats on an R46 F train compared to an R160 F train is because the older trains run in consists of 8 cars (75' each) while the new trains run in consists of 10 cars (60' each). So, even if you see that there are less seats in a new R160 car you have to add another 86 seats to a new train of R160s to compensate for the two extra cars. Also, the new trains have more doors (the same as in the older R32s and R42s) than the longer R46s. If the R46s had the same amount of doors as the oldest and newest trains do, then they would not have nearly as many seats.

the (F) is 90% R160 now, so either get used to it, or Ride the (V) trains. i think R32's arent running on the (V) anymore, just speculation, not set in stone yet.

R32's Still running on the (V), 2 trainsets Only with the rest being R46's, The (F) is going to be 100% R160 due to the More R46's going to 207/pitkin to replace R44's.

Also I have a Gut Feeling that the R160's are going to pop up on the (V) before the Merger.

I don't think so. The new V would use R160s in 4 car sets and it would be too much of a hassle to switch from 4 car to 5 car sets, especially if the 5 car sets would only be on for a couple of months.

So is it safe to say that the R160's feel and are smaller?
