From Ny1 Transit:

"A bus driver and a passenger were both arrested Wednesday (July 1, 2009) after they got into a dispute aboard an M.T.A. bus in Brooklyn.

Transit Officials say it all started when there was a problem with a passenger who brought a dog onto an B36 bus. The driver stopped the bus and was waiting for help when another passenger got mad.

Police say the woman demanded Her money back, but the driver declined. They say that's when She started to hit the driver repeatedly with Her jacket.

Witnesses (on the B36 bus) say the driver then began to hit the woman on Her neck. Both the passenger and the bus operator were arrested for assult.

The incident happened at 37th Street and Surf Avenue in Sea Gate."

At the first stop?

Something tells me that person was looking for trouble to begin with....

ah well, that's gonna end up being one less b/o on the MTA roster... they're gonna find (somehow) that the b/o was 100% responsible and in the wrong... Although I can't see how in the hell the driver could have GAVE the passenger her money back....

The rules need to be made clear by the MTA that only dogs for the disabled ie wheelchairs and blind are allowed on mass transit period. The driver should have just walked away from the woman and call for the police when she started getting 'violent'. I blame most of the incident on this lady. Still the Driver should have had more restrain.

As our friend Max aka 7 express has said earlier in other topics on passengers wanting to take 'pet' dogs or cats, "Let them take a cab.' Or being in safe, santized boxes or cages only.

In most cases if you can afford to own a dog/cat you can take a cab or if you have one your car. And this view comes from a dog/cat lover as well. mad

I see them more than ever ie small dogs or cats 'sneeke' onto subways and trains. mad

Was the bus operator in the right for declining the fare return which caused the passenger to begin hitting the B/O with Her jacket?

No. I wouldn't have given her the money back, B_35 said he wouldn't give the money back, I don't see anyone who would give her the money back.

I've never said they should take taxis. I said they should leave the damn thing at home if they can hear and see. I love my dog, but if someone gave me $2,500 to take him into New York on the train, bus and subway, I would tell them to take a hike and get outta here.

Apparently around the first stop. The B36 begins its' loop there at West 37th Street and Surf Avenue im Sea Gate. I'm not sure what happened to the passenger with the dog or where they were going (maybe Coney Island?).

Techinically, dogs, cats etc. are supposed to be in cages

Of course they should, I agree that it's the owner's fault for not putting her dog in a cage. But Lex just thinks all dogs are bad for no apparent reason.
