6 cars would be sufficient. 4 cars is a joke. During the G's rare appearances on Queens Blvd you always see people at Roosevelt running to catch it.

But with the AA pairs almost all sent to Pitkin or 207th, there's no way they can make the G 6-car trains again. That's why it has to be either/or.

While it would be nice for the G to be longer, it seems that except for rush hour at Court Sq and Hoyt Schermerhorn, the 4 cars can pretty much handle the crowding.

I think that to alleviate the people running for the G because they are standing where the train will not stop, the platforms should be clearly marked to indicate where the G will stop. For example, hanging signs saying "The G will stop here" or painting the platforms (floors) the G green color in the location where the G will stop in addition to signs. Just something obvious.

Why dont they just shorten the platforms if they dont plan on lengthening the (G) train? Because that would make a lot more sense.

How do you shorten the platforms?
I'm with NX on this, just mark off a segment of the platform where the train will stop, preferably near the stairs. So this way no one has to run to catch the G train and knows exactly where the G will stop.

Just wall them off, that's how you shorten them. Or like you guys said mark them off.

'Walling off the platform' makes no sense, don't you remember the G runs 8-car trains when it has to replace the F, when the F runs local on Fulton? What do you do then for a full length train?

I would assume. The G doesn't have enough cars by itself

I would assume since the (G) replaces the (F) (and the (F) replaces the (C)) at these times.

yes you would be right and the G gets 6 extra cars for the whole set.

The cars don't 'belong to the F' it comes from Jamaica yard [F/R/V trains]. But for the most part, yes R46's from the F are borrowed for the G line. And the F borrows some R32's from the C to run to Euclid.

What do you mean '6 extra cars'? The current G is 4-car trains. And a full length R46 train is 8 cars.
The G rarely runs anything but R46's.

Maybe this "permanent" extension to Church Avenue is not so permanent after all.

According to the MTA, "This new extended route for the (G) will be in effect for approximately four years." See below:

Again no. R46 cars are 75' long. A 4-car train is 300' long. A full 8-car train is 600' long.
So it goes from 4 to 8 cars. And unless an R32 and/or R42 is on the G, you won't be able to railfan the G from the front car.

Wow only temporary untill they finish the work.that's just like the mta to not care about the G riders.

Maybe the demand for service will be so great that they'll make it permanent

G has R46 so it is easier to switch to OPTO service without swapping train sets.
