Why stop at 3, why not 4? The platforms would have to be extended to hold a longer train, which would be expensive and not practical. And just because it is crowded, it doesn't mean it needs more cars. People just have to wait for the next train. That's all.

Extra rolling stock doesn't necessarily call for a line extension...

They thought of extending the shuttle line (which used to connect to the Fulton Street line) to Myrtle Avenue connecting with the spur from the Crosstown line before merging with the Central Avenue line (which might have been planned to replace the Myrtle Avenue elevated).

Yes they did. In fact that is where the line originally started from way back in the late 1800's. It was part of the Fulton St El.

haha its not plausible to extend the (S) anywhere its better the way it is with exception of extending the platform for an extra 2 cars

on the triboro -RX subject
i don't know if they will ever fund the project? if they can get the SiR northshore and west shore fixed then its possible.

And still that's not needed and a waste of money.

the franklin ave shuttle the way it is today is fail...they shoulda just kept the original design with 2 tracks there is absolutely no way any extension of it would happen today considering the way it is built

They rebuilt the line from scratch back in 1995 and they probably figured that they could save money by only building the second track at Botanic Gardens. They figured that since the shuttle runs every 10 minutes, they can time it so that trains pass each other at Botanic Gardens and don't need to double track the whole route.

Especially when it goes up on structure after Botanic Garden, much more expensive to build or update new structure then existing open cut.

MTA wanted to shut it down completely and thus let it fall into disrepair. The community led an effort to save it and the result is what you see today, a partial 1 track operation and no Dean St. station. A win by any measure and it works. As far as future expansion, that's only for fantasy map makers..

Its actually a vital link as there's no in-system transfer at all in Brooklyn between the IRT and Fulton, and likewise for anything coming out of Brighton. Its always full leaving Prospect Pk and Franklin on the other end. Does its purpose.

Um, yeah that's pretty much obvious. You don't need to post it just for the sake of saying something.
